Government Relations

The mission of our government relations program is to promote the competitiveness of the Hawaii banking industry. This includes parity in the laws and regulations that govern various types of financial service providers. Our goal is to present an informed and unified voice on matters of critical importance to Hawaii and the Hawaii banking industry.

Hawaii Legislative Session Bills

The Hawaii State Constitution provides that any bill pending at the adjournment of a regular session in an odd-numbered year will carryover to the next regular session with the same status. Before the carried-over bill can be enacted, it must pass at least one floor vote in the house of origin.

The Hawaii Bankers Association (HBA) represents the banking industry to members of the Hawaii Legislature, Hawaii's U.S. Congressional delegation and various state agencies. HBA works in conjunction with the American Bankers Association (ABA) on federal legislative and regulatory matters.

The U.S. Congress has been extremely active on all issues of interest to our members.
